Well, nothing was done this week due to it being thanksgiving weekend and a burnt up cooling fan.
One good thing did come of it though, i found someone that had a few junk tires that i can use. There not pretty but they hold air. I'll be picking them up this thursday. So if all goes well this weekend we will drive that baby out of the carport. But before we can do that we have to install the E brake so we have a little stopping power. As of right now the car is brake-less because the master cylinder is out along with the brake pedal that it attaches to.
Untill this weekend!

A First Timer

I'm a first time blogger and a first time classic car owner.
It started around four years ago. My cousin had bought this 1950 Dodge Coronet from a older gentleman that no longer drove it. This piece of junk sat in his yard rotting away just begging for love. So the dodge was bought at a whopping $650 bucks. Its was soon brought to his house and sat while he figured out the hopes and dreams of what this car would be. Not to long after, him and I and a occasional friend would completely gut this car and have it striped to a shell. The inside of the car was about as empty as it was on the Detroit assembly line about 60 year ago.
All the wiring, windows, fuel tank, bumpers, exhaust, tires, rear quarter panels and all the chrome was striped. At the same time everyone wasnt labeling the bolts when they pulled them and only making one bag of bolts, which this would make a very difficult puzzle later on. This work in progress would then sit for about two years due to a lack of money and my cousin's know how. After giving up on this diamond in a rough he gave it to me for free. I was hesitant on taking it because all the work and money it would take to get this piece of junk driving was just more than what i wanted to do but my wife talked me into it and filled my head with the same hopes and dreams my cousin had.
The Dodge was hauled over to my house and it would then sit for another two years because of the same reasons my cousin had, not a whole lot of know how on fixing and restoring, and money.
With the current economy in shambles the Dodge was still on the back burner due to me having a child and getting laid off from my job. My current job was effected also, my hours were cut and the possibility of my family of four losing our house. Depression then set in over finances and all hope for this Dodge of mine was finally coming to an end. I then posted ads online trying to sell it so I could pay bills. It was then a old buddy from high school that I use to hang out and party with seen my attempt to sell this car and sent me an email and said he would help me get it running and back together if I decide to keep it, so with that offer...why not.

So this journey began about two and a half months ago. So far I rekindled my dreams for this car and a pasted friendship in the process. With my friend's help I found the idea to recycle anything and everything in order to earn the money to restore my car,
and when I say restore I don't mean pristine. This ride of mine is gonna be a rat rod (a workin man's hot rod).
So far my buddy and I have rewired the car, installed the dash with new gauges, converted everything from six volt to twelve volt, got the engine running, fuel tank up, turn signals workin (which it never had), exhaust back up and tune up.

From this point on I will update weekly on the progress and the savings from recycling along the way until this ride is complete.
Till next weekend,
